Aftercare Suggestions

Your new tattoo is an open wound and should be treated as such.  Do not touch your new tattoo, except for when you are caring for it, and always do so with clean hands.  Never rebandage your tattoo, unless under the care and supervision of your tattoo artist.  

Your artist will suggest how many days your Recovery Bandage can stay on your new tattoo, keeping in mind that if fluid is leaking out of the bandage, this indicates a break in the seal of the adhesive.  At this point, the tattoo is no longer protected and is vulnerable to potential contaminants.  

We suggest you remove the bandage, clean the tattoo, and begin the aftercare regimen described below.

If the skin becomes red or blisters around the edge of the bandage, remove and begin aftercare.  If there is no leakage or break in the seal, keep the bandage on for the recommended amount of days as stated by your tattoo artist.  When it is time to remove the bandage, do so gently in the shower under warm, running water.

Once Recovery Bandage is removed, follow the instructions below:

Wash your tattoo once a day with clean hands, and once the tattoo has dried, apply suggested unscented lotion to the tattoo.  Make sure your tattoo is kept clean throughout the entire healing process.  Peeling and flaking is to be expected.  Make sure not to pick at the tattoo during this stage.  

It is important to allow your tattoo to breathe, so loose, clean and cotton clothing is suggested.  Avoid tanning, swimming, boating, salt or chlorinated pool water, hot tubs, saunas, steam baths, tubs, rivers, oceans, etc.  Touching, rubbing, scratching, hitting, slapping, pulling or picking at your new tattoo could cause scabbing and irritation, which could lead to infection and a prolonged healing process.  

After your tattoo is done healing, proper use of sunscreen and lotion as a regimen is highly suggested to maintain and enhance the beauty of your new tattoo.  

Consult a healthcare provider if unexpected redness, tenderness, swelling, rash, or unexpected drainage occurs at or around the site of the tattoo.
